The animal shelter provides a safe place for pets who have been lost or abandoned. Have you found a lost pet?
Please bring the pet to our shelter (511 W 3900 S) if you found the pet in: Bluffdale, Brighton, Emigration Canyon, Copperton, Holladay, Kearns, Magna, Midvale, Millcreek, Murray, Salt Lake City, White City, or any other Salt Lake County Metro Township.
We're open 10 AM - 6 PM, Tuesday - Saturday (closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays.)
Or, you can call Dispatch at 801-840-4000, and an Animal Control Officer can assist you. They can retrieve the pet or give useful information.
When a pet arrives at our shelter, here is what happens:
- Our staff collects information from whoever brings in the animal. This includes documenting where the pet was found. If the animal has any ID, our staff tries to contact the owner.
- Shelter staff enter the animal's information into a database.
- An Animal Care Specialist checks for any injuries, signs of illness, etc.
- Our staff takes a photograph of each animal and posts it on our website.
- The animal will wait at the shelter for their family to come.
- All animals must stay at our shelter for 5 business days. The stray holding period gives owners time to claim them if found.
- If an animal's owner does not claim it, and the animal is healthy and friendly, our staff will make it available for adoption. People over 18 who pass the adoption interview can adopt an animal. Shelter staff will conduct adoption interviews. We adopt on a first-come, first-served basis and animals will NOT be held.
