Lannie Chapman
Salt Lake County Clerk, Lannie Chapman's journey with Salt Lake County began when she sought to make a meaningful impact closer to home. She served as a deputy District Attorney in the County's Civil Division, where she collaborated with numerous County agencies. In 2019, she was appointed Chief Deputy Clerk under Sherrie Swensen, the longest-serving elected woman in Utah's history. During her tenure, Lannie played a key role in ensuring successful local, state, and federal elections, even amid the challenges of the pandemic.
In 2020, her contributions helped the Clerk's team earn an Election Assistance Commission Clearinghouse Award for "Innovation and Accountability" by creating accessible maps that guided voters to vote centers and drop boxes across Salt Lake County.
Elected as Salt Lake County Clerk in 2022, Lannie has continued her commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard. Under her leadership, the Clerk's office received two additional Election Assistance Commission Clearinghouse Awards in 2023. The first, for "Outstanding Innovations in Elections," recognized the development of an easy-to-use, highly visible batch log that improves the ballot reconciliation process. The second award, for "Best Practices in Recruiting, Retaining, and Training Poll Workers," honored the creation of a custom dynamic poll worker database that enhanced communication with poll workers.
Lannie was appointed by Lt. Governor Henderson, in 2024, to serve as Utah's local official on the Election Assistance Commission Standards Board.
Lannie earned her bachelor's degree from Kalamazoo College and her Juris Doctorate from Thomas Cooley Law School. Outside of her professional life, Lannie and her family embraced Utah's epic snowfall, enjoying the slopes of Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, particularly at Brighton. When ski season ends, Lannie, her husband, and their two daughters love to travel and explore the wonders of Utah and beyond.
