Risk/Needs Assessment

A risk/needs assessment is an important step prior to starting probation. The purpose of the risk/needs assessment is to determine the level of supervision needed and to identify life areas that, if addressed, will reduce the possibility of future involvement in the system. Classification of risk level allows for effective use of limited criminal justice resources as well as better outcomes for defendants.
