100 Women Who Care SLC Donate to SLCo CJC
SALT LAKE CITY, Ut - Today Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced a more than $25,000 donation for the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center (CJC), from the local charity organization 100 Women Who Care Salt Lake City. The downtown Salt Lake County CJC is in the process of moving from the downtown Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office to the YWCA campus in Salt Lake City. This generous donation from 100 Women Who Care Salt Lake City will help create a calming and welcoming family room/playroom for children that are either victim-survivors of abuse or witness to a crime. The room will be a space where children can relax or play before being interviewed about the crime in which they may be a witness or a victim-survivor.
This donation comes through the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, a nonprofit that raises money to help support the mission of the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center.
100 Women Who Care Salt Lake City was started in 2015. They carry a membership of more than 250 women. The organization meets quarterly to decide a nonprofit to donate $25,000 to during each of their meetings. Since 2015 they have donated more than $800,000 to help organizations like the Salt Lake County Children’s Justice Center.
The Salt Lake County CJC is a place for a child or teenager that may be a victim-survivor of abuse or another crime, or a witness to a crime. It provides kind support to the child victim-survivor and family. A fairly short visit to the program and the child will receive supportive comfort and be able to talk to a specially trained interviewer about the serious crime.
“We are a totally diverse group. Everybody is welcome, and we come together in service to the community. In service we grow to love and admire everybody . . . We love the idea that our money is going to this play and comfort room for these small children that have had horrendous negative experiences in their life. And it is going to make it possible for them not to have to tell their story over and over,” said Lisa Evans, 100 Women Who Care Salt Lake City.
"I just want to take a second to acknowledge and thank 100 Women Who Care Salt Lake for their generous donation of over $25,000. You're going to make a difference with this contribution to our Children's Justice Center and to the children who come there, often under terrible circumstances, bearing incredible grief, pain, and hurt. But they are still children, and this support will help us create a playroom, a toy room, a safe, warm, and inviting space for them—where they can simply be children and find joy and happiness as they navigate this difficult time in their lives,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “Thank you for your willingness to share your resources so we can make our community a little better,”
