Charge Filed for Threat of Terrorism

Today, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced a Threat of Terrorism charge and three other felony charges against Sayed Zeinullah Mousavi after he allegedly threatened to attack the Sandy Police Department and other Americans.

On October 31, 2024, Sandy Police Officers tried to stop the defendant three times because he was in a car that had been reported as a stolen car. The defendant drove off all three times. Sandy Police Officer Biggs was able to take the defendant into custody after his car was disabled. In a search of the vehicle, a paper was found with writing stating, "Pressure Israel to cease fire with killing significant jews in Gaza. And lets take non hostage. Only soldiers/male government. Conduct assignation of leaders. Attack Military sites with most expensive bombs. Plant bombs inside Z-jets." Officer Biggs took the defendant to jail. The defendant told Officer Biggs that he was going to kill Americans and kill the U.S.A. and to watch the news in two weeks to a month if the officer did not believe him. The defendant also told Officer Biggs he was going to buy guns and shoot up the Sandy Police Department.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office charged the defendant with one count of a second-degree felony threat of terrorism, three counts of third-degree felony failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop, and one count of a class C misdemeanor driving on a suspended operator's license. Charges against the defendant were filed on Friday, November 1, 2024.

"We appreciate the work of Sandy Police Department taking this potentially dangerous defendant into custody. This office will always take seriously threats against our community safety, “said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. "All persons accused of wrongdoing are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."
