Jury finds Terence Trent Vos Guilty of Aggravated Murder
Today, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced a Third District Court jury found Terence Trent Vos guilty of the 2021 aggravated murder of his girlfriend, Shandon Scott.
On May 1, 2021, Unified Police responded to a crash on I-80 in Salt Lake County. Initial reports were that a female in the vehicle was deceased from many gunshot wounds. A witness to the crash stopped and saw the defendant in the driver’s seat and Ms. Scott in the passenger seat, who had blood on her and was not moving. The defendant tried to take the witness’s vehicle, but the witness stopped him. Shortly, law enforcement arrived on scene and started attending to Ms. Scott, the defendant then ran from the scene. Police took the defendant into custody a short time later. The defendant told police that someone else shot Ms. Scott, but during a phone call while incarcerated, he told a friend he made that up and that he and the victim had gotten into a fight, and he shot her.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, after a six-day trial, the jury convicted the defendant of one count of first-degree felony aggravated murder, three counts of first-degree felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, one count of first-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person, one count of second-degree felony obstructing justice, and one count of class A misdemeanor failure to stop at command of law officer.
“I am proud of the work done by our homicide team in one of the most brutal domestic violence attacks we have prosecuted. Though we could not provide perfect justice, if it was perfect Ms. Scott would still be alive today, we hope Ms. Scott’s family and loved ones feel that this guilty verdict provides some measure of justice for their sister, daughter, and friend,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “We appreciate the outstanding work of prosecutors Anna Rossi Anderson, Morgan Vedejs, and Cara Dunkelman, as well as our support staff. We also thank our law enforcement partners at Unified Police Department who thoroughly investigated the case to help ensure this successful prosecution.”
