Permanent-Facility Permits
All food service facilities in Salt Lake County must meet health department regulations.
The following steps represent the normal sequence of events necessary to receive a permanent-facility food service permit:
- Undergo the Plan Review process (see "Plan Review" section below) to ensure the establishment’s physical facilities meet current regulations. Once plans are approved, construction/remodel (if applicable) may begin.
- The health department will conduct inspections during construction to verify compliance with the approved plans.
- Submit to the health department official letters from your city proving availability of sewer and culinary water connections (newly constructed facilities only).
- Check with your local sewer district to determine grease trap requirements.
- Apply for a business license in the city where your business will be located.
- Submit a completed Food Service Permit application and permit application fee to the health department.
- Register the Certified Food Safety Manager (“ServSafe” or equivalent) with the health department.
- Undergo a Preopening Inspection by the health department and all other required authorities (potentially including, but not limited to, the fire marshal and municipal building inspector).
