Overview
The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Prevention Program focuses on helping youth and families connect to each other and build strong foundations so they never engage in substance use. In other words, prevention helps people prevent drug use; it is not treatment or recovery for those already using substances. This “upstream” approach also positively affects other social and environmental issues such as academic achievement, safe communities, and physical health.
We do this work through two primary strategies:
- Community Coalitions: The SUD Prevention team joins forces with communities, schools, service providers, businesses, youth, and others to walk through evidence-based community coalition processes that lead to positive results.
- Evidence-Based Prevention Services: The SUD Prevention program, in partnership with our Tobacco Prevention team, supports over $2.1 million of prevention programs and practices in Salt Lake County through contracts with schools, nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, and other providers.
