Catherine Kanter

Catherine Kanter is the Deputy Mayor of Regional Operations at Salt Lake County, where she oversees the Public Works Department and the Offices of Emergency Management, Landfill, Economic Development, Housing, Regional Planning and Transportation, Housing and Environmental Sustainability. Prior to her position at Salt Lake County, she served as the Executive Director and Campaign Manager for the successful statewide ballot initiative, Better Boundaries/Proposition 4. Catherine previously practiced law for over a decade at the law firm of Barack Ferrazzano in Chicago, where she held the position of equity partner and specialized in commercial real estate transactions.

Her experience in the local political arena includes having run as a candidate for the Salt Lake County Council At-Large seat and having served as an elected representative on the Granite Community Council and as an appointed Land Planning Commissioner on the Salt Lake County Mountainous Planning Commission. Catherine has also spent many years working with various local non-profit organizations and championing causes she holds dear, such as addressing intergenerational poverty through her work at Neighborhood House.

Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Kansas and a Juris Doctorate from Northwestern University, where she served as a distinguished Wigmore Scholar and a member of the Criminal Law Journal. Catherine lives in the Sandy area with her husband, Josh, their two sons, Benjamin and Nate, and the family’s two rambunctious Labrador Retrievers, Ellie and Tessie.
