Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services Employee Kelly Roemer Honored with Housing Award
Salt Lake County, UT—Aging & Adult Services is pleased to announce that Kelly Roemer has been honored with the Utah Housing Coalition’s Person of the Year Award. Ms. Roemer was honored this morning at the annual Utah Housing Matters Awards Breakfast in Salt Lake City. Roemer works as the Housing Liaison for Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services, a position she has held for more than five years.
“I am so proud that Kelly has been awarded this honor. It’s wonderful to see her being recognized for the work she does on behalf of older adults who are homeless or at risk of losing housing,” said Paul Leggett, Division Director of Aging & Adult Services.
The Housing Liaison Program at Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services works with seniors who are unhoused or need affordable, low-income senior housing and who are having difficulties navigating the complexities of applying for housing. In this role, Ms. Roemer works with seniors who are rent-burdened, having trouble finding or applying for affordable housing, or at risk for homelessness. Through this program, Aging & Adult Services is working to ensure that all Salt Lake County seniors have access to safe, appropriate, affordable housing.
Ms. Roemer was nominated by Heather Lester, a mediator with Utah Community Action who works with landlords and tenants. In her nomination, Lester wrote that, “Kelly has also been a source of inspiration to all of us who work alongside her and her work. Her passion for social equity, housing justice, and community empowerment is contagious, motivating to others and she never wavers on working collaboratively toward shared goals.”
“Kelly has a big heart – she’s really dedicated to her clients. I can’t think of a better person to receive this honor,” said LeeAnn Colgan, Program Manager for Aging Services, who supervises Roemer in her role at Salt Lake County. “I think her clients would be proud,” added Colgan.
