2024 Regional Solutions Event - Aging in Place

Building Resilient Communities for Salt Lake County’s Changing Demographic Landscape

Salt Lake County is proud to announce the upcoming "2024 Regional Solutions: Aging in Place" event, set to take place on October 2nd, 2024, from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Viridian Event Center in West Jordan.

This pivotal event will bring together national experts, local planners, and community leaders to address the pressing issues related to our aging population and explore innovative strategies that support aging in place.

Event Overview:

  • Date: October 2nd, 2024
  • Time: 9 AM to 4 PM
  • Location: Viridian Event Center, 8030 S. 1825 W., West Jordan 84088
  • Additional Event Information: slco.to/2024RegSolutions

In the face of rapid demographic changes and evolving urban landscapes, the need for resilient and inclusive communities has never been more critical. This event will feature dynamic discussions, expert panels, and presentations aimed at fostering sustainable, livable, and age-friendly communities.

Keynote Speaker:

We are honored to welcome Danielle Arigoni, Managing Director for Policy and Solutions at the National Housing Trust and author of Climate Resilience for an Aging Nation. Danielle's extensive experience in community resilience and housing will provide invaluable insights into developing thriving neighborhoods for people of all ages.

Why This Event Matters:

  • Demographic Shifts: Utah is aging rapidly. By 2060, more than 20% of Utah’s population will be at retirement age, dramatically impacting the workforce and housing market.
  • Economic Challenges: Utah's median income falls to just under $60,000 in the retirement years, contributing to increased poverty rates and financial instability for older adults.
  • Housing Concerns: Nearly 6 out of 10 Utah renters aged 65 and older are currently cost-burdened, with most householders spending more than 35% of their income on housing costs.
  • Workforce Impact: The aging population will affect labor force participation, with fewer young people available to fill jobs as older workers retire.
