Council Approves Mayor Jenny Wilson’s Expansion of My County Rec Pass

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Salt Lake County Council and Mayor Jenny Wilson, Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the expansion of the My County Rec Pass to include children ages 3 and 4. This expansion corrects an oversight and simplifies the program and makes recreation more accessible to a greater number of family members. The is available to all Salt Lake County children, ages 0-18.

The My County Rec Pass provides access to a wide range of activities and facilities designed to offer accessible, inclusive, and engaging recreational opportunities for children of all ages. Salt Lake County is committed to fostering community involvement and promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all young residents through this free program.

"Expanding the age range for the My County Rec Pass is the right thing to do for Salt Lake County families because it ensures every child in our community has access to recreation centers and the health and wellbeing opportunities they provide," said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. "We are beyond excited to welcome, free of charge, Salt Lake County youth under 18 to participate in the My County Rec Pass."

Thanks to the overwhelming support from Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, the Salt Lake County Council, and the Tourism, Recreation, Culture, and Convention Program (TRCC) Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation's My County Rec Pass is one way that Salt Lake County government is helping to break down financial barriers for many families and residents.

"The success of the My County Rec Pass over the summer has been remarkable. Since the program launched on June 1, nearly 62,000 children have become pass holders. We love being able to provide this resource to our community," said Associate Director of Recreation Doranne Pittz, Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation.

Additional statements from Salt Lake County elected officials about the expansion of the My County Rec Pass:

"We love this program! It gets kids off devices and helps them exercise and meet new friends. It's good for both physical and mental health!" -Salt Lake County Council Member Aimee Winder Newton.

"I was excited to support this expansion of the My County Rec Pass to include ALL Salt Lake County kids! This is another way to help families have fun together, save money, and support our kids' mental and physical health," Salt Lake County Council Member Suzanne Harrison shared. "I appreciate Mayor Wilson's leadership and my council colleagues to help more of our families."

When initially launched, youth ages five to 18 were eligible for the pass and children ages zero months to two years were not assessed an admission fee. This created an inequity for three- and four-year-olds. The revised program eligibility addresses the inequity issue, reduces confusion, and provides an improved experience for our community members and families.
