Jordan River Park Plan

Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation is beginning the master planning process for a new Jordan River Park. The park development prioritizes conservation of natural habitat and innovative programming to engage individuals and families living in Salt Lake County.

The proposed park area stretches along the Jordan River from Highway 201 to 4500 South. Salt Lake County already owns several parcels of land in the area, including open space, Redwood Park, and General Holm Park. The creation of the Jordan River Park is an effort to better manage these areas collectively in a way that better serves county residents and protects the Jordan River corridor as a natural amenity.

The master planning process includes an assessment of the geographic area and existing amenities along the proposed area, and outreach to community groups and local governments. Master plans for regional parks typically take one year to complete. 

Tracy Aviary will add a second location within the proposed park boundaries to offer education and conservation programs along with other programming that connects people to nature and helps preserve the natural habitat. The Aviary will begin programs at this location in Spring 2019, using transitional building units. Tracy Aviary anticipates construction for the new facility to begin in 2020.

Salt Lake County will launch an “ideas competition” to collect creative, innovative ideas that may be incorporated in the Jordan River Park master plan or be developed in the surrounding area.
