Public Notice Upcoming Items

On August 13, the County Council adopted a resolution to provide for a local special bond election for the purpose of issuing general obligation bonds of $507,000,000 and calling a public hearing to receive input from the public. If approved, the bonds will be issued for the purpose of:

  1. Building a Justice and Accountability Center: The Justice and Accountability Center will be an alternative to jail primarily for low-level offenders who are repeatedly involved in the criminal justice system because of underlying issues, such as unstable housing and mental health, and substance use disorders that have not been addressed. The Justice and Accountability Center will connect people to outpatient treatment, job training, permanent housing opportunities, and support services to get their lives back on track with the goal of eliminating criminal behavior.
  2. Consolidating and Improving the County Jail by: Combining the two county jails; Increasing the number of beds; Expanding access to mental health treatment; and, Building a reentry unit to help people leaving jail prepare to rejoin society.

Public Hearing

Salt Lake County held a public hearing at 4:00 p.m. on September 17 at the regular meeting place of the County Council: County Council Chambers, N1-100, 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. All members of the public were invited to attend and participate. Prior to the hearing, written comments may be submitted to the County Council to the attention of the County Clerk, at the office of the County Clerk (as Council Clerk), located at 2001 South State Street, N2-700, PO Box 144575, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4575 or to council@saltlakecounty.gov.

Public Meeting

Salt Lake County will hold a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. on October 8 meeting for the presentation of arguments in favor and against the ballot proposition relating to the County’s proposed $507,000,000 of general obligation bonds.

This will be held at the regular meeting place of the County Council: County Council Chambers, N1-100, 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. All members of the public are invited to attend and participate. Prior to the meeting, written comments may be submitted to the County Council to the attention of the County Clerk, at the office of the County Clerk (as Council Clerk), located at 2001 South State Street, N2-700, PO Box 144575, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-4575 or to council@saltlakecounty.gov.

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to the provisions of the Local Building Authority Act, Title 17D, Chapter 2, Utah Code Annotated 1953, as amended, and the Local Government Bonding Act, Title 11, Chapter 14, Utah Code, as amended (together, the "Act"), that the Governing Board (the "Governing Board") of the Municipal Building Authority of Salt Lake County, Utah (the "Authority") intends to issue its Lease Revenue Refunding Bonds, Series 2024 (the "Bonds") and will hold a public hearing to provide members of the public desiring to be heard an opportunity to present testimony on the proposed issuance of the Bonds in accordance with Sections 11-14-103 and 17D-2-501 of the Utah Code Annotated 1953, as amended. Said public hearing will be held on October 8, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., at 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the Bonds is to provide funds to (a) refunding certain outstanding bonds of the Authority; and (b) pay costs associated with the issuance of the Bonds. The length of term of the Bonds shall not exceed six ( 6) years. The average annual amount that the Authority will be required to pay in principal and interest on the Bonds is $6,035,353. The intended lessee of the facilities refinanced using proceeds from the Bonds is Salt Lake County, Utah (the "County") and the expected annual amount of lease payments that the County will pay is $6,035,353. The Authority anticipates taking action on the proposal to issue the Bonds directly following the public hearing at the same meeting listed above.
