Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Investigating Fatal Crash in Little Cottonwood Canyon

Little Cottonwood Canyon, July 13, 2024 – Detectives from the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

At 7:43 PM on Friday, July 12, a westbound motorcycle on Little Cottonwood Canyon Road collided with an eastbound vehicle. Responding to the scene, Unified Fire Authority personnel declared the motorcyclist, identified as 38-year-old Neil Munroe, deceased.

The driver of the vehicle involved is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the motorcyclist lost control while navigating a turn, leading to the collision with oncoming traffic. The crash happened near the Iron Blosam Hotel at Snowbird, causing a temporary closure of a section of the road for several hours.

In response to the fatality, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team has been activated to conduct a thorough investigation. This specialized, multi-jurisdictional team is skilled in examining crashes involving serious injuries or fatalities. CAR Team members are trained in various aspects of collision analysis, including speed assessment, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying, crash scene mapping, evidence collection, and computer-aided drawing programs.
