Milestone Home - Parade of Homes

The Milestone Home was renovated through the generosity of community partners. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness of the unique partnership that supports youth experiencing homelessness in our community. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has partnered with the Milestone Program for over a decade. Since 2012, this partnership has helped over 300 young adults learn the skills needed to become self-sufficient.

In 2023, the Milestone program served and successfully transitioned (defined as stably housed and employed or in school up exit) 20 young adults with an 83% success rate. This program saves lives.

Making a House a Home

The vision of Salt Lake Parade of Home project was to bring in new sponsors to help create a safe, productive, and inviting space for young adults in the Milestone Transitional Living Program.  This home provides young adults with the opportunity to live and learn the life skills (cooking, cleaning, hygiene, etc.,) they need to be self-sufficient.

This was accomplished through a remodel of the interior and exterior spaces.  The interior includes an open concept kitchen that will be used by the young adults on a daily basis.  The live-in house manager use the kitchen and dining room to run cooking group and teach life skills.  The new outdoor space is inviting and conservation friendly. This includes water-wise plants, a bike rack to support the young adults transportation needs, and new outdoor furniture provides additional living space.
